    Engraved dress bayonet

Hi, I have a double engraved long dress bayonet with an Infantry dedication reading Infanterie Regiment No41 Amberg, Bayr. Ostmark. Then the opposite side is the service dedication with eagle and cross rifles with helmet. It is maker Eickhorn on one side, the other says Peter Kolb Amberg. I assume Amberg is a town. Does anyone have any info you can share about the inscription. Thanks, DEL

    Del,

Amberg is most likely the town/region...the part of the inscription that reads "Bayr. Ostmark" would suggest that the town is located in the State of Bavaria.

Peter Kolb was most likely a uniform shop, retailer, or distributor of edged weapons located in the town and through which the regiment ordered their bayonets from Eickhorn.

Hope that helps. If I'm off base on any of the information, the beauty of the Forum is that someone else will come along to fill in the gaps.

Hi Del, I also have a double etched Ks 98 parade bayonet by F.W Holler with a dedication to the 46th Art' Reg Amberg and an etching depicting a machinegun crew, artillery crew and Tank on the other side.. I did some research in to this unit (10th Inf Div) and found that It was, at one time, stationed In the town of Amberg, Bavaria. The Inf Reg for this division Was the 41st...

      Hope this helps...
      Warmest Regards ... John

        Hi Guys,

Amberg is a military garrison town in Bavaria. During the Imperial era a Royal arsenal was located there and produced Gew. 98 Mauser rifles and other military hardware.
An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.

It goes without saying. I have a friend who heard two dealers bragging about buying bayonets and sending them over seas to be engraved.

              Dress Double Engraved Bayonet

I have the same bayonet that I purchased from Bill Shea of Ruptured Duck several years ago. I have seen two others for sale online over the years, but the exact engraving seems different on each one on the side with the Regiment number and town name.

If you have Wayne Techet's book, German Etched Dress Bayonets, you will see this etch described here pictured on page 117.

Kolb as a distributor is found on several bayonets with or without the Eickhorn maker markings.

Many of these etches are being faked today. Compare yours closely to the one in Wayne's book.

That being said, it is always great to find a double etched piece.

Looking for scan of etch in Techet's Book

Does anyone have the book that could send me a scan/photo etc. of the etch so I can compare with my etching? I don't have access to Wayne's book and can't afford it anytime soon. Thank you.
