    1st Luftwaffe Questions

I have a few questions regarding 1st luftwaffe daggers, and was hoping people here might be able to answer them!

    1. I have seen both dark blue and light blue leather, now does this start off the same colour, and the dark blue has just tonned over the years. Or is there two types of blue leather used?

    2. This question depends on the answer of number 1! Do all early Lufts have dark blue leather and later aluminium ones have the light coloured leather? Has anyone seen an early Luft with light blue leather?

    3. Does all SMF made 1st Lufts have 3 wires wrapped round the grip? Or are there other variations SMF used? Does the twist on the middle wire always twist the same way on SMF grips?

I am thinking of getting an early SMF luft scabbard re-covered, but am wondering if the light blue leather is appropriate?

Any help or advice would be great.

    Thanks

    LEwis

Photo 1-This is a transitional dagger w/aluminum chain and gold washed swastika's as opposed to the brass insets on the early dagger. Blade is unmarked.

Thanks for the pics Bill. Looks like there is a mix of leather tones on early and late Lufts.

                        Very nice daggers!
