Paul Weyersburg & Co. Luftwaffe 1st pattern

    Hello all,

For a first pattern Luftwaffe dagger that is complete, and un-touched (not cleaned or sharpened) is this a rare maker? I don't have images at the moment but this was brought back by a co-worker's Uncle.

    Any approximation on value?

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

Unfortunately it's not complete as it's missing part of the suspension chain assembly. That's going to hammer the value.

It's clearly got that "been there" look about it. It's not a top dollar Luft, that's for sure. Between the condition and missing part, maybe in the $550 range? I really don't know what i'd offer on a piece in this condition. When it comes to edged weapons, condition is really important. I don't really think this one could be cleaned up all that much. My value estimate may be totally wrong.

                  Hello there,

Well would you recommend that I try finding the correct hanger, any ideas on where I could find one? Thanks for the reply.

                    Hi William,
That is an option, but keep in mind, the hanger chains can be bought, but they are not cheap. So if you choose to move foreward with the purchase, you need to factor this all in.

Me, I would pass on it. Yes, it has some collectibility, but it's not one I really would want. So it all depends on 1) How much you want this dagger 2) The asking price on the piece. Complete chains can run into the $300 range. I've priced them in the past. Keep all this in mind, and should you choose to buy, be sure to shop around for a chain.

                    Good luck and happy collecting,
                    Tom

Chances are when you find a chain it will probably not match the rest of the dagger.
It's just not worth the trouble. I would pass on it and find one all complete.
Weyersberg is a common maker for 1st Luft's.

                        Hello all,

Well against the advice given, I paid $500.00 for it.

                          IMO you did good.
Can't find one like that for $500. anymore.

$500 is peanuts for a dagger like this ,its bizarre some people go potty over the patination and some think patination makes a dagger worth less, if this had been on a dealers site the prose describing the patination would have been a masterpiece . Also had this been polished up to super shiny condition the prose about the spectacular condition would have had you straining at the leash . Just some thoughts Rob
