    Looks to be a 1935 (First Pattern) Railway dagger. Should be Robert Klaas marked and have the asterisks (*'s) on the scabbard bands.

    Hope that helps,

        Railway Dagger

        It is thought Railway daggers were attributed to the following makers;

        - Robert Klaas
        - Carl Eickhorn
        - Weyersburg, Kirschbaum, und Cie (WKC)
        - Hans Kolping

        Looks okay from the pictures but I am always of the opinion what is to stop somebody from replacing the grip from an Army dagger with a black one and calling it a Railway dagger ?

        Anyway looks a nice piece.

          Not as indicated especially by your dagger (as I can't be sure from the photos) Army daggers with a replaced black grip have a tendancy to have the black grip with a very dull finish to the surface of the grip. This is usually caused by taking a white painted Army Dagger grip from a Klaas Army Dagger and removing the paint, hence the black color grip. This is the source for SOME of the 1st Model Railway Daggers on the market place, especially those with the Klaas marked blade.
          Luckily for the collector, Army Daggers with painted grips by Klaas are rather rare, especially since those dealers bent on making a quick buck discovered this long known deceptive practice.
          So, the bottom line is: carefully look down the center of the grip hole to determine if you can see any of the white paint remaining in the hard to reach areas that the guy may have missed in cleaning after using paint remover.
