    M36 SS dagger knot

Hello all, what is correct (and regular) maner to tied knot around grip of a M36 SS dagger.
Like in pictures 1,2,3,4 or 5 or again like pictures and explanation on p 243-244 of Collecting the Edged Weapons of the III Reich Vol III of Johnson?

(Hope collectors will be not offense if I used their pics found on WAF!!!!)
    Sincerely

Mine is wrapped like that in pic 3. I believe this is the 'correct' style for this dagger.

              Portepee pattern

              Hello,

From what I have read the prescribed method of tie is that of a crossed "X" pattern that is laced across the lower part of the grip and wrapped underneath the crossguard. As it does not stay tight and interferes with the dagger being placed flush into the scabbard we see different varieties of period ties such as in picture 3.

Having said that I suggest you now wait for someone like JR. to confirm that as I am still learning about this pattern of dagger.

              Regards,
              Stu

                    Hi Skyline Drive,

Thanks very much for posting the picture. Those men would never have believed that we would one day pour over it examining these types of details.

                    Regards,
                    Stu
