    SS Dagger for opinions

    Hi All!

I've been offered this dagger and I would love to get some opinions on it before I put out the $$.

    Thanks!

Early nickel fittings, re-painted scabbard, I dont like the way the grip fits the crossguards. Though in excellent shape, this is a much later blade and would most likely not have nickel fittings, but I guess anything is possible. (new old stock, etc.)

Too many issued for me and I would recommend you pass on it.

Hi Jason, the grip fit and repainted scabbard would kill it for me too. There are much better SS daggers on the market. Keep an eye on the E Stand.

              Cheers, Ade.

PS> My pet hate. It really bugs me when people show daggers in the scabbard the wrong way around.

I'm that kind of expert on daggers, but should'nt the eagle and swastika be placed in the exact middle of the handle (pic 2 ) ??

No, they shouldn't. They are always in the widest point of the grip.

I think the question being asked was actually whether or not the eagle should have been centered in the widest part of the grip, which this one isn't.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have passed on it.

Just another example where a WAF membership is worth thousands.

                        RZM number

                        Hi,
does the makers number on the blade 1054 exist as I cannot locate it?
                        cheers Robert

Not an SS collector, at all and probably never will be. It doesn't interest my collecting taste, but allow me to ask a few questions for knowledge sake. Perhaps you guys and the advanced SS collectors can help.

                          1) Would you rate the entire daggers a repro?
                          2) Parts dagger?
                          3) Misc. mix of authentic and reproduction parts?
                          4) If all or pieces are repro can anyone date the pieces?
                          5) If repro pieces are present, is anyone familiar with the parts/and or configuration to ascertain where it came from?

SS has always kept me at more than an arms length due to the proliferation of repros, and mish-mashed pieces. That being said, I am still interested for reasons of curiosity. Certainly the '36s are very attrative pieces, but aesthetics alone doesn't make mashed potateos and gravy.
