SS dagger question

A freind of mine has an SS dagger with the handle made of some sort of black bakelite. Is it possible that it is original? Were there any SS daggers made with non wood handles?

My guess is that its a fake,but I could be wrong.I've never heard of a SS grip other than wood.

OK, thanks for the answeres. The fact that he has this rather obvious fake in his collection on a well known piece makes me worried for the rest of his collection...
