    HJ Knife M7/38

    Hello guys,

I want to ask you how you think about this knife. There is a long story behind this knife if its true what was told to me about it. And I know, don’t buy the story buy the object.

I came in contact with an old men that was in the HJ in the war. He still have most of the items he used in the war. Items like his uniform, headgear, photo’s, medals and a lot other thinks. A lot thinks are in good condition others not. Back in time when he knew it was over he and a friend of him ( also from the HJ ) had hidden some objects in the basement from the parents of his friend.

To make a long story short I have his knife now. It’s in a good condition. But I’m thinking the knife is a fake. Because it’s to beautiful, to well “preserved” to be an original. After so much years it looks still so good. Even if it was saved on a good place. But the men isn’t a dealer and he didn’t sold it for the money (it wasn’t expansive). And the story about it makes it hard for me to believe that it is a fake.

I hope that there are some people here that can help me out. Is it a good knife or a fake.

Thanks alot for looking in this thread.

    Kind regards,

    Jeffrey.

yes thats a repro as you rightly think.

without playing detective, if the story is genuine perhaps someone has swapped it recently for the orginal and placed that there. would be interesting to get photos of the guys other items! but that hj knife could have been made yesterday

Thanks a lot for the response guys. Thanks for the PM Mike I can learn a lot from that ( the information and website you linked me).

If I look back it's to stupid from me that I bough it. But the story’s that he told me made it all so real.

                    Thanks again all.

                    Kind regards,

                    Jeffrey.

( sorry for my bad English)

                      Jeff,
Your English is very good. I always hold Europeans, Asians, Africans, whoever in high regard that they have been able to master the English language which in and of itself is a very complex and often perplexing language to learn.

It's easy to get caught up in a story at times. I know how it goes. We want to belive the person who tells the story. But when you've been collecting for awhile, and after you've been burned a couple times, which we all have, you learn to be very skeptical of the story and instead focus on the artifact. Knowledge and experience is key when collecting any type of antique artifact. Jeff, i'm sure now, all your HJ knife purchases will be correct. Chalk it up as a learning experience. You'll be that much better and more knowledgeable of a collector.

                      Tom

And I hope I won't make the same mistake again. Thanks for helping me out.

                        Regards,

                        Jeffrey.

Dont despair, you will find lots of originals if you want one, dont be sad because of this episode! And dont worry, your english is very good!

                            Couple of things

Compare the diamond with a real one and you will quickly see the difference and the scabbard has a lip..a definite No-No!
If you didn't pay too much, its a pretty knife, just not original.
