Ist Model Luft for opinions, authenticity etc

    Fellows:

This is the third Dagger I will put up for comments. The NSKK did not fare so well. This one is for sale and I am thinking of buying it. Please advise me if you will on this piece. The pictures were taken hastily at a show. I cannot remember maker, but I thought it was Herdenberg or something like that. The pictures of the mark are lousy. Sorry. The blade is nice, You can see the Hilt is nice. The scabbard has a few cosmetic issues. I wish I could have gotten a better picture of the blade.

    Any help appreciated.

            Price of Dagger

The seller is asking 690.00 for it. The blade is real nice and clean. The Maker I cannot remember and the picture is bad of the mark.

Looks genuine to me, even from the bad pictures. The leather of the scabbard has a few problems I see. Now the price is good IMO.

              Regards, Theo

I agree with Theo, its a good one. The price seems like a good deal even for one in fair condition. This one seems to be better than fair, considering the blade is as you say.

That Luft seems to be fine. However, i'd like to see the MM or at least know who the maker is.

The price is good in todays market. From the pictures it is hard to say if the dagger is.Some keys are the maker,If it is aluminum or nickel. If all the componets are of the same material. ect. $700.00 is still a good sum of money.I cannot recomend buying it with out better pictures. They are quite common daggers so I would not get in a hurry.I would also look for a nickel one that is black with patina and never cleaned even if it cost more.

                      Yeah, what he said.

Hold out for a better, early silver example...you'll be glad you did.

I would look around for a better piece. You might need to spend another $400 or better, but you with be happy when you have it in your hand.

Its hard to find a 1st Luft that doesent have some age issues, the leather doesnt hold up well, and the plated blades usually have plating loss from the runners in the scabbarb.

And yes, I would find a nice unmessed with Nickel/silver fitted piece.

I'm amzed at how these and Luft flyer swords have risen in value recently. I'm glad I got my early silver-nickel and school marked fliegerschwert when I did.

Maybe I'm feeling rich, but @ that price I'd take it-with the caveat that it looked un-messed with and grading about exc. or better once in hand. I remember when I passed down a beautiful nickel 33 SS for $800 about 10 years ago because I thought the guy wanted every penny the thing was worth. That was probably true then, but the same blade would be nearly 3000-4000 today. I'm still kicking myself, but I had just bought a nickel chained 36 SS a few days earlier and couldn't imagine spending any more cash on daggers that soon. That was only 10 years ago. The days of the good deals are gone fellas. I already own an early silver 1st luft and I'd be happy to spend less than 700 on a decent aluminum one to add to my collection.
