              Rich,
I think the dagger itself is fine. A tiny bit of spacing between the grip and fitting, but that can probably be attributed to shrinkage.

The only issue I see is the motto. It looks like it was painted in. That motto is definitely not the original burnishing. Not a huge issue, but it should effect value a bit.

Otherwise I don't see any other issues.

Value wise, I always have a difficult time, especially with SA/NSKKs. The market is funny like that. I would guess around $550 if all checks out. That being said, a nice later RZM marked SA can sell for up to $650. It all depends. This is just my humble opinion. Perhaps an SA collector can chime in on this one.

              Good luck.

I agree with Swordfish, the motto is most defintely painted. I would personally hold out on this one.

Hi Rich, as the other guys have mentioned the motto has be messed with. The paint should come off OK, but as with everything, it all comes down to the asking price.

Just for the heck of it, I will mention the $125 door plate upon which the dagger is photographed is a British made fantasy item from the 1970's.

                  Cheers, Ade.

What strikes me about the blade is how "rounded" the Herder mark is. Looks almost fat. Definately, not the crisp factory etch so could be attributed to heavy polishing. At a minimum, this dagger needs closer inspection to look for restoration.

I see no problem with the paint inside the motto. A piece of cotton and some enamel thinner (or paint stripper, etc.) should do the job without any harm to the blade. And I agree with Colorado that etching looks strange. Too deep for me.

                        I agree with my colleagues.
The "crossed Key" Herder had a darker burnishing but was not painted, to the best of my knowledge. However there are about only 3 or 4 makers that did paint in their Motto's at the factory with black enamel paint.

This blade also looks polished to me. Unless your geting a "good deal" on it I would pass over $450. ....but that me.

Here's how the burnishing looks on a original "Crossed Key" Herder logo.

                          Thank You Very Much

Guy's, Thanks a lot for the information. I will pass on this piece thanks to your

evaluation. The Police and 1st Model Luft he has, I will put on. It is interesting that the door plate is a fake. I just happened to photograph the Dagger over that plate. He will not be happy to hear that. It was crowded and I snapped what I could for you to look at. Please look at the Police and Luft that I will put up.
