    SS DAGGER Real or FAKE!!please help!

    Hi everyone,
    i put on here a dagger of my husband's and the news was not good on it, so i am a little worried about the SS dagger that i myself have got. I have had it for about 2 years now, but have never had it checked out to see if it is all ok. Could you please give me your honest, true gut feeling on this dagger and make me happy or miserible
    I bought it from a well known auction house and they guarrentee everything they sell.
    Also, is there any way that i can clean up the blade on it?

          Sorry, but I don't like this dagger. I would question how the blade got to be in such terrible condition (and I believe it is beyond repair!) while the rest of the dagger remains nearly mint.

          At best, a put-together/parts piece, IMO

          Wish the news was better

              Hi Belinda!
              I'm not expert on these although have been studying them for a while as i will be buying one myself. The grip & crossguards look fine from those pictures but they certainly never started their life with that blade.

                  What a pity but if the wear on the piece overall doesn't match then yes it does look suspect. The blade wear has to mirror the wear on the handle and vice versa.

                  I don't have any SS but I do have some Heer and HJ knives and generally a knackered blade and rest of the piece fine sets my alarm bells a-ringing.

                    I don't see any wear on the blade, it was just rode hard and put away wet.
                    There are some dings and marks visible on the handle and guard.
                    Of course it can't be "repaired," pits are forever.

                    I would not touch any German dagger as original any more, though, unless I knew for absolute certain it had been locked away in a vet's attic since 1945.

                      I try to be a little bit more careful now, but at the time i had only started to collect and this was one of my first daggers that i bought (14 in total). I hate to think what you lot think of all my other ones.

                        Real shame about that blade Belinda, the rest of the dagger looks in good shape.

                              A quality german blade does'nt corrode like that, only poor remakes, the handle looks like black plastic
