    Opinions on SS dagger!

    Hello guys,

Can you please give me some opinions on this SS dagger by Gottlieb Hammersfahr?
Daggers isn't really my area so I would appreciate any help.

I have more pictures of needed.

    Best regards,
    David

I´m not a dagger expert either but IMO this is a nice original dagger

                Cheers

The scabbard looks like it may have been refinished, and the blade has really been over cleaned even possibly steel-wooled. Everything else fits nicley and looks good.

Yes the blade looks a big rough!
Here are some more pictures of the blade.

What would be a reasonable price to pay for this dagger?

                    Regards,
                    David

It could be the photos but the grip to crossguard fits (particularly the lower) look a little weak.
The SS rondel is set in at a cock-eyed angle. (Though we have seen that before on good pieces, it doesn't help)
The makers mark looks good, but the blade looks to have been worked over with a brillo pad (I wonder why?) and the background burnishing to the motto is shot. (Remember that the blade is the "Heart" of any dagger)
That's too many issues for me to be comfortable with.
I'd rather have a piece that doesn't require so much forgiveness.
                          Just my opinion.

I have a twin, same maker, same markings (also III district). Mine has a straight SS button though... I like it! I don't have the strap...but mine came back from a US vet and is 100% OK. This ones looks alike! Nick
