3 mint, unissued 'dagger'/'sword' Troddel...what are they?

Dear all,

These three 'Troddel' originate from a very old collection and are really stone-mint and still tied together by a piece of cotton. The detail and craftsmen work on these three items is stunning, but what are they exactly? I suppose the blue-one is Luftwaffe (for the sword?) and the other two SS?? (for the bayonet?)...Why have they reversed top-colours?. Are they common or rare?

The standard Luftwaffe sword was not worn with a sword knot. The two knots with black highlights are not SS.

From the photographs, these appear to be three fake fantasy knots from the 1970s or 80s. Notice the sloppy way the glue is applied and the felt (they appear to be felt in the pix) in the bottom of each Portepee. Pry the cords on the Quaste apart and see if you can see bright new white thread. Also black light the knots and see what reacts.

Many people believe these originated in the Atwood era, and were never issued during the Reich. They find their way onto Red Cross NCO Hewers (the blue ones), and SS Bayonets and swords (the black ones). I have no proof either way, but they do have some good collector value, whatever the vintage.

These are often found offered as period as Craig pointed out, in fact Craig has a nice SS NCO sword on his site with the same knot as yours as far as I can tell, listed as a scarce NCO knot. Many argue these as SS, or unattributed late period, others as outright fakes, who knows...
