Opinions on this SA dagger pls

Hello, ive been offered this SA for a very good price, the type of price that is probably to good to be true. long story short a youth knife on ebay got pulled i emailed the seller to see if he would sell off ebay, well hes happy to do so and for a v nice price and hes also got his SA and a graviety knife to sell off. Now iam very hesitant as this chap lives about 400 miles away from me so iam being very careful in how any exchange takes place.

i asked for nice close ups but he said hes got an old digi camera thats not great, not too much of a prob he sent me the more blurry pics since then..

ive been trying to check there not just blow ups of the orginals and have actually asked if he can take a pic of the daggers togther on a dated newpaper a minor annoyance if he's geniune

now the dagger is a herder, cant get close up detailed pics but what are you impressions from what i have? looks ok to me, its his asking price of $400 thats making me think run away seems to gd to be true surely i cant be that lucky and hopefully these pics havent been nabbed off someones website

anyway heres the pics thanks guys

To me the dagger looks original. An early piece with nice fittings and the right anodized scabbard. But the handle looks like it is oiled? And the blade might be buffed a little but it is really hard to tell from the pictures! But original for sure IMO

    All the best

That grip looks just like a 'crossed keys' Herder should look. I think it's very fairly priced.

At that price its a good deal, If you feel confident about the seller coming through on his end do it!

Hi Mike - Maybe it's because I am sour from my head cold, but the blade looks like it's shortened and been retipped. Could be the photo.

Again, maybe it's the terrible photos, but that shiny grip, spotless fittings puts me off and makes me think it's been apart and cleaned up with a professional restoration.

Take it for what it's worth, I am on cold medicine.

thanks, comments noted there Jeff, ill pop the question the guys had it a good20 years i think so if it has its likely he's had it done. Reached his 60's and selling off all but his jack knives so he says

how long should a SA blade be?? or is that a how long is a piece of string question :P

Other than personal preference would a 'cleaned' dagger hurt its value, in my limited experience of the SA dagger iam still right in thinking the $400 asking price is still a very good price?

An SA dagger blade, along the center ridge, from the tip to the center of the crossguard should measure 220mm.

just looking at the hanger and comparing to the above pics its not in exactly the same place as the one on the paper, least thats a good sign lol

anyone read the times today? not been down to the newsagent yet :P

the measurements are given as 222mm to below the centre of the crossguard (from the seller)

                            SA Dagger

If I were you Mike I would get the seller to put the dagger back on Ebay with a Buy Now at the price he has offered it to you for and to let you know exactly when he is doing it. That way as soon as it is listed you can buy it.
Doing it this way you will then be protected by the Ebay rules should there be a problem.
I would also stipulate to the seller that you wish to have a returns policy whereby you can send the dagger back for a full refund if you are not happy.
£200 for an early SA (as you say) sounds too good to be true but I hope it works out.

Let us know how you go on.
                            Best wishes, Ian

                              SA Dagger

                              Forgot to mention Mike.

The newspaper has the right headlines for todays paper but the picture appears to be different. I looked on the Times website under 'our papers'
                              Hope this helps.
                              Cheers, Ian
