German wwII sword... ?

I have one sword from my grandpa. He told me that it is a german officers sword,and he got it from one german officer as a present because he saved him from the partisans at the end of wwII in Croatia. (He let him hide in his house) But my father told me that it is sword from wwI. I think it is a wwII sword but i am not sure. Can you help me..

Here is a picture.. It has number 3 (picture 2) as a mark i think. It's damaged ,becouse it has been used a lot as a machete (they didn't know how value it is).

Hi,

What you have is just a sword blade. It is almost impossible to accurately determine what era this blade is from as the hilt and the rest of the sword itself is missing.

It's a curio now with very little value other than what you would value it as a family momento.

Do you know at least is it german sword.. and is a number 3 german mark.. (I saw number 3 on the some geman swords with logo ( solingen something).)

Hilt is broken and I don't know where it is, unfortunately.

Without additional photos of the hilt, etc., it will be very difficult to give you additional information.

Hilt is lost. Thanks for trying to help anyway.. I hope someone will give me some information. I'am thinking to buy hilt and repair it, when I find out what hilt to buy.
