Heer Dagger Unk Maker - Help ID

Another one of my favorite daggers. This one is unmarked, but all metal was lacquered black with white celluloid grip. The tang has what appears to be the letter "H" on it, the pommel has thirteen oak leaves. I have also included a picture of the bands as where they come together it looks like they tried to make it look like a screw was used. I compared the eagle and pommel with A.W.Jr dagger I have and they appear to be the same (is this correct). The scabbard has a screw on both sides.<O></O>
Would welcome all comments as to who made this beautiful dagger. Why was it lacquered black? If you need any further pictures don't hesitate to ask. Jim<O

The dagger originally was lacquered. After many years, the lacquer turns loose and allows air to seep in under the laquer. The oxidation of the silver plating causes that "black" look and not due to being coated with "black lacquer".

What appears to be an "H" on the tang of the blade is probably a "+" inside a square if I were betting..... Probably made by a blade maker that supplied blades to MANY dagger firms.

Crossguard looks like a Generic "B" type to my eyes and many of this type were used by several different makers.....

Your dagger could have been made by any number of makers and left unmarked. Many of the unmarked ones were sold through a uniform shop or some type of retail shop in my opinion. Would be next to impossible to determine the maker based on what I see. NOT a negative though as there are MANY Army daggers that are unmarked. They don't bring what a nice, marked example might bring, but collectible they are.

Yours looks to be a nice example.
