SS Dagger - out of the woodwork

Picked this one up this evening from the 2nd cousin of the vet that brought it home - at least that is the story that came with it.

Marked w/ the RZM motif and 941/40 SS.

I would appreciate any thoughts or opinions concerning this one.

    First a full-length shot.

Looks like an original Eickhorn. Nice find!

                      Calvin-

Do the grips look as though they may have been re-finished/repainted? The edges that meet the crossguards seem a little soft, but it could just be the pictures.

A few things look a little odd. The grip to crossguard fit, grip shape, the definition of the etch and its position on the blade. The low motto position is also a concern, it should be around 25-30mm from the crossguard on Eickhorns, except their Rohms and Himmlers which were further. The upper scabbard fitting appears to have a rounded rolled edge which is also a little unusual. Do you have a pic of the tang?

Here is a shot of the tang - motto side.

Tang is unmarked as best I can see.

Does that alleviate or raise more concerns.

                            All help is greatly appreciated.
