Unknown Knot I need your help

Any ideas??? Is it rare or common??? I aquired this knot in a small box lot I purchased from a WWII veteran some years ago. It is in remarkable shape other than the slip ring which has wear to the top and bottom. The ball looks to be made of "springy" twisted wire, brass or gold bullion?? I just don't know. There is a springy dark blue wire in the opening at the bottom of the ball. I like the piece but I have no idea what it's for (bayonet or sword) or what country it's from or even the value of it.

Your knot appears to be for a US Navy officer sword.

I agree with SCHUPO; it's a US sword knot. We used this style during the Civil War for army and navy officer's swords. The Navy kept using them long after the army went to a leather knot for their Model 1902 army officer's sword. I believe they are still in use today by the navy.
