Yet another Etched Bayonet

Gentalmen,

What do you think of this one? Was this even a pattern during the Third Reich? My knowledge of etched bayonets is bad ive bought 3 bad ones (as bad) just to have um.

The piece is a period produced bayonet that was embellished, probably in England in the 1960s. The etching isn't bad for post 1945 stuff but when you come down to it, it's still a postwar etch & should be proced accordingly. As Fire 61 says, if you enjoy it, it's worth it. But don't be lulled into thinking it's period. BTW, these combat pieces were almost never tarted up like this. Oddly enough, in recent years, pieces like this have found their own niche in the collecting world.

I think that there are some guys who series collect these fantasy bayonets (the bayonets themselves are period, but as already mentioned the etching is not).

Oftentimes it is the really trashy junk bayonets without any (or minimal) collector value that were the ones that have had the etching added. What is very sad to see is otherwise acceptable condition bayonets that are destroyed as legitimate Third Reich artifacts - to satisfy somebody’s desire for either some kind of “art” or for profit. Totaly fake, I believed these etched bayonets where made by someone in Belgium...

As the other said it is a postwar fantasy piece, but nicely don. Actually I think there is quite a few who collects these even if post-war
