I´m not so sure about it. The etching has no "sprigs" under the eagle", like it should be. I think, the etching is bad, but maybe the rest of the dagger is good???? Look at the tip, it is thick. Is this okay??

I think blade is repro. Quality of etching is not comparable to good blades I've seen. The X-guard leves a bit to be desired also.

The eagle crossguard looks like the correct pattern for this manufacturer. The same can be said about the pommel. Coppel used brass for his gripwire.
Can't say much about the etching. genuine or not? I have one picture found of an etching with an eagle without the "sprigs" and the same droop-tail.

What does the blade tang look like?

I would be careful with this one. The absence of the leaves that should be under the eagle in the center panel is a big red flag.

                        Wolf,

Another picture of the tang where it meets the blade itself, please. And one of the full tang and part of the blade to accertain the complete shape of the tang. I'm particularly interested in seeing if the blade is ground from flat stock versus being a drop forged example.

While I agree with others here that the etch is not quite right, the hilt fittings and the scabbard look to be genuine pre '45 Alcoso manufacture. I am interested in the extra pics for clarification of a later point.

                        Thanks!

                        Tony

He has bought it 3 weeks ago, during my vacation. I saw it the first time yesterday. He paid 735€. I was very sceptical, because of the missing pieces under the eagles wings and because of the strang blade tip.

Is the dagger (without the blade) ok???

I agree with Tony. The blade could be a totally fake or just the etching itself. The rest of the dagger is original. And indeed: a clean shot from the blade sholder area could give some clarification.

My opinion is that it's a postwar etch on an original dagger. It wouldn't be one I'd be comfortable with.
