This is interesting. It looks like a field upgrade or something. The blade mark actually looks engraved instead of being stamped or etched. I'm stumped!
Regarding repro TR Heer sabels, recently there was a great thread on GDC about it. It stemmed from a post about a saber that had the swas backward. After some discussion, it was ascertained (if I recall correctly) that the saber was a period example and not a repro.....nothing like the Chinese copies keep in mind. The thread segwayed (not the correct spelling i think) into the better and better repro TR sabers. For a long time, we all thought that this area was safe. It still relatively is. With over 200 variations in TR Heer swords, it would be tough for the creators to hit all makes and models. Addtionally, the work that goes into a sword vs. a dagger is monumentally greater. But, and this is a big butt, with the recent swing in prices of TR sabers, I can see it becoming worthwhile for the frauds to create some nice repros. I've seen the Luft fleigers, some of the SS degen repros, and those are all pretty bad with the exception of some of the 1960's degens that could definitely fool a novice or not very experienced saber collector. Most the degen repros of a variation of the Eickhorn MM.
Check the sword section and scroll down a bit. A definitely worthwhile read for us sword collectors.
Just to keep the record straight:
There are those on GDC who think that reversed swastika swords are period and those, myself included, that think they're made up of rejected parts post war. I'm not trying to re-start this discussion over here as no ones mind will be changed anyway. I just didn't want the idea that everyone thinks that these swords are universally accepted as legit to go unchallenged.

I quess my question would be better phrased asking whether not this was an original sword of some sort that was turned into a piece of junk. The Dragon's head is actually fairly detailed in comparrison to the piece of crap crossguard. I thought maybe someone sat on their patio and started working, after a few beers, converting something into nothing.
That sword listed is junk. Undoubtedly. No question. Period IMHO. Regarding the sword on GDC, im not sure there was a complete concensus. I think the sword on germandaggers.com is period, perhaps at worst, made from period peices. Beyond that, I cannot speak to it and let people decide what they want. But do not confuse that saber with this piece of garbage listed here. I don't think we need to re-open that thread from GDC over here. It's been beaten to death.
Still, i reccommend checking out that thread over at GDC. It's a good read and very informative. Alot of varied opinions, alot of which make alot of sense and are definitely learning tools.
Happy collecting my friends. Keep searching for that hidden treasure
