This matching 41 bayonet came directly from the vet's family (not a show). I know US vets attached emblems to their war booty (you used to see lots of holsters with emblems) but did German soldiers ever do this? I know bayonets were govt. property but this one is attached very securely to the frog. Also I assume this is a panzer eagle not an SS one. What do you all think.

FP is correct, the piece was probably enhanced by GI or postwar with panzer deadhead, the bayo is nice, Coppel 1941 produced, could You send the serial number with letter is not visible from the picture, the grips are correct when the screws looks turned. The scabbard is matching? best regards,Andy

I do believe you are right that the German soldier didn't put an emblem on his frog. There would be more if it was common and you'd have more photos. I wonder about the portepee though. The soldiers did break the rules, at least with personal property. For example officers continued to carry Heer daggers long after the order was given to not wear them in combat. Also some did not remove the decals from the helmet. Also there is that Signal photo of the RK winner smoking on a tank I believe (the commentator said normally someone would be severly chastised for that but it was a hero) Anyway I have seen some portepees on bayonets but who knows?
