Unless the price was really fantastically priced, I personally would not pruchase a knife with a plastic strap. It's just one of those items you find yourself forever making excuses for.

Absolutely correct. And rare to find with the WAR TIME plastic belt loop. Was made by only a few companys during the late war period and the rest of the knife matches.

PS: BE careful, the plastic becomes brittle after time and I would leave the snap undone.

There is nothing wrong with that knife and it's in collectable condition. I find plastic straps somewhat desirable, but that's preference.

I disagree you have to make excuses for them. Maybe to a new collector, but not people who have seen enough HJ's.

Making an excuse for that plastic hanger would be like making an excuse for an Me 262, cos it didn't have a real engine.....

There were periodic leather shortages in the prewar period much earlier than one might ordinarily expect. To get around that obstacle substitutes were developed, and the maker of the basic material for the strap pictured could be either Dr. A. Wacker GmbH or the I.G Farbenindustrie AG. In good condition there are a desirable (IMO) variant especially for specialist HJ/hiking knife collectors. FP
