opnion please about a DAMAST Officers Dagger (Inf Reg 73)

    Hi guy's

I put up a very nice and interesting Heer Officers Dagger for sale on the
    E-Stand.
This one is not a regular one but with a damast blade and text on the blade.
A few people would like to buy this one and asked me to put it under discussion. Please have a look and tell me what you think.

    Here is the link.

      Army K&M Damast

My first comment would be that this appears to be artificial damascus from the pics.

The blade has a new look to it with what looks like ALL gold plating remaining on "inscriptions" and new-like appearance of the artificial damast, in comparison to the fittings.

Unplated, late, WKC crossguard and plated, generic scabbard (could be, but ?)?

Super rare, unheard of maker at the same time? Lots of coincidences/oddities, here....... TOO many to suit my tastes.

There seem to be many different things about this dagger that would lead a person to having serious doubts about it's authenticity without giving it a closer look, 1st hand. JMHO....

It is already being discussed on this forum in a thread entitled "Army on E-stand".

        .... to that thread.

I'm afraid that it doesn't look very good at this point.
        Sorry.

Denny's the man when it comes to Heer daggers, their manufacturers, types of parts, etc. I know damast (or artificial damast) by smaller cottage manufacturers are always a little more suspect in my eyes. The fact this one has a gold presentation makes me even a little more wary. I know none of this is scientific but I've found some skeptcism in this hobby is always a good thing. It's an interesting looking piece but I would think so only at a very cheap price.

After looking at the pictures - I’m afraid that I will have to agree with the previously stated opinions of those who are skeptical of this dagger. From what I seem to be seeing it raises more questions than feelings of assure that the dagger is a genuine period item. FP
