    SS OFFICER SWORD OPINIONSq

Hi Guys, I have been offered this sword by the family of the vet that brought it back. To me, with a limited knowledge of blades (I am a cloth guy), it looks like an officer candidate sword that the owner bought a set of metal runes for to turn into an officer sword. Maker is Emil Voos. Can anyone shed some light?

Question: is the grip wood or is it a composite bakalite type material?

I've never seen a grip runes button like that. Lets see what others have to say.

    perhaps a converted police degen?

Looks like an Officer just wanted to keep his original Degen and had the runes made and added later after promotion.

        Hello Gerard,

The SS degen with runics was an award only bestowed by Himmler. Those officers who did not receive the honor sword from Himmler (documented on the Dienstalternliste and awarded with document) were allowed to wear a degen without runic emblem on grip.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

I would not touch it. This is not an original presented piece.
IMHO someone just got a bit "creative" with this...
