    Shrinkage or a partsdagger

This will arrive any day, the dagger looks good but I have noticed some flaws that might be a warning. Look at the handle and the crossguards, the space between seems pretty big, BUT by the look there is the same shrinkage on booth upper and lower crossguard.
    Well give me your thoughts.....

While the gaps look a bit larger than generally encountered, I would chalk them up to skrinkage of the grip over time.

Nice dagger, desirable maker, and tough to find in that condition!

    Enjoy your new dagger!

IMO, based on the photos, the dagger is fine and not a parts dagger. Very nice!

mail just arrived and I got the dagger.
I scanned the crossguard, hope you see what I see. The left gap is 3-4 mm and the right is approx 1 mm. IMO thats not normal. I paid 470 euros for it so I have to be sure its a good one.

As much as I hate to disagree with the experts, this grip looks like a replacement. Not only does the size of the gaps between the edges of the crossguard concern me but the "fit" of the grip to the curve of the grip fittings can not be explained by shrinkage. The curve on the grip should still match the curve on the fittings.

          Just my opinion.

I still have no problem with the dagger. It's not perfect, but when I'm as old as that dagger, I probably won't be either.

That being said, if you're not happy with the dagger now, you probably never will be - it's just that if you try to return, I'm not certain you can make the case for it not being original.

lower scabbard fittings...... turned screws. Painted scabbard seems to have fresh paint. Small parts have fallen off and exposes no age imo.

Have to agree with Jim on this one, the grip radius is not the same as the radius of the crossgurads, not to mention the gaps. Looks messed with a bit much, pity, looks like a really nice blade...

Either different crossguards or different handle. A tasteful parts dagger with reconditioned scabbard. Still nice. just my opinion.

I agree with Skipper. Looks like grip shrinkage to me. The problem is exactly what you are seeing happen in this thread. Not everyone agrees and that can make it tough when it comes time to sell it.
