HJ knife opinions, its my 1st one :P

bought this today, its my first HJ knife, hopefully the 1st of many! please tell me your opinions and what you think it should be worth, i hopefully paid a good price for it

i will post the price i paid but i dont want to bias peoples decsions just yet

the handle and hj badge were the best out of the selection i had (5 hj knifes) the blade iam guessing a late knife as it hasnt the inscription although it doesnt seem to have a visible rzm mark the makers make is
    H & F
    LAUTERJUNG
    SOLINGEN

maybe the rzm has been ground off, over sharpened as it isnt in the best of conditions? it looks like its had a hard life, but it seems ok for shape?

what can i do to clean the blade up? theres a fair bit of dirt on it, but i dont want to damage it.

    thanks mike

    Nice

I like it. The only thing that I believe is not original to the piece is the leather hanger. It looks like it came from a different knife. It may just be the photo but it's too loose for my liking.

I think as you say, a good dagger that has had a hard life.
I would put the value at about $200.

Hi, it looks like a nice example, congrats. I think it is late as you say, but you have to know that sometimes mottos disappear with the time and because of the use.
I have to agree with Darren, the knife could worth around 200 dollars.
And regarding the leather hanger of the scabbard, Jan could be right, it doenst look good.

            Hi Mike nice HJ knife
Will you post a picture of the backside of the scabbard and hanger?
The leather look like a replacement as the other guys says, but the leather IMO could be mid to late war. What I say is it could be a period repair from the look of the knife it looks like it was used and even the strap broke at some point.

Here is a picture of one of my K98 pouches the leather has the same surface and it was used on a lot of equipment.

            By the way nice price
If it was me I would use a bit of WD-40 and a rag to clean it a bit....otherweise leave it as it is

Let me know what you think
            Cheers

i shall get some good pics up tomoro, looks like you could be spot on with that k98 pouch leather, if so i wonder if it was a period repair, nice thought anyway.

ill give cleaning a go, wd40 is that just for the leather or blade or both even??

                thanks everyone

don`t put wd 40 on the leather, it`s a light engineering oil, and i don`t know what that would do to an organic material like leather. but i would give the blade and exposed metal bits a wipe with a wd40 soaked rag. it`s good as a rust preventitive in my opinion, i`m no scientist, but it`s what i do with my daggers, and they look pretty good to me still!.

Hi I´m looking forward to see some more picture
Just use the WD-40 on the blade....I don´t know how much it will clean but it will help a bit I´m sure.
I´m sure there is other ways and other products out there but I use a bit of WD-40 and it worked fine???

                    Cheers

Try using some type of semi-chrome polish. You can find it in auto parts stores. The WD traps moisture under it. The semi-chrome is also used for aluminim rims to polish. I live by the stuff when I decide I HAVE to clean a blade. If you ever get a minty blade with good cross grain or darkened motto you have to be gentle however. I use Muther's finest.............lol. Welcome to the WAF.

Hi Mike IMO the leather hanger is original. Rivets and button all seams good also the wear and rust seams to match the rest of the scabbard

Great looking knife, the strap is fine. Use Simi-chrome lightly on the blade and just use a cloth on the scabbard. It's worst days are behind it. Nice find.
