A guy just showed my trading parter a nice Eickorn Rohm dagger with full inscription. the dagger came with a box of iron crosses etc. from the vet (a picture of the US vet goes with it). anyway a middleman bought the lot for $2000 and he wants $4500 for the dagger before he takes it to a show. I don't have any pictures but assumming it is a real Rohm dagger is that top of the line price or would it bring more? I probably could buy it but I'd want to turn it around and make some on it. Too pricey for me to keep. Anyway the guy is palnning on taking it to a show if noone buys it.

Dennis,
Some very critical information is missing in this equation to get a proper answer. Is it a SA or SS Rohm dagger? The value greatly differs between the two.
As Larry said clear photos would be very helpful.
$4500 is a big number for a SA Rohm. The condition would have to be superb. On the other hand if it was a SS Rohm, then the price would be a bargain if the condition is very good.
Then there is always the sticking point of authenticity. Rohm inscriptions have been reproduced for more than a few decades. Snap purchases should not be made when dealing with these daggers.
Getting something from a vet direct can have it pit falls also. Who knows for sure when the vet actually acquired the item. I speak from experience here, having been burned by a 'vet ' direct buy that I witnessed personally and then bought some of the items a few weeks later.
Too many unknown factors to give you a plausible or realistic answer.
Sorry.

Sorry, I was writing while in a hurry when I posted -- It is a SA Rohm. From the description given to me the dagger is in excellent shape. No worry about a snap purchase. I was just getting a feel for price ranges to see if I wanted to invesigate further. I wouldn't purchase a daggger like that unless I could take detailed photos and put them on this forum at the very least. It sounds like for the Rohm SA this is a top price. That answers my question. From the discussions with my friend my "gut " tells me this one has a good chance of being real (although as we know these inscriptions are faked -- even on nice daggers). Actually the guy sent photos to Tom Johnson who offered him $4000 for it but the guy didin't want to risk mailing it. But given no connection to a TR idividual etc. and the fact I'd have to travel a ways to see it and given the price I won't investigate it further. The guy is taking it to the the Show of Shows so he'll be walking around with it. Let me know if any of you see it.

Thanks for your reply -- still a little too much for my budget (although I'd love to have a Rohm dagger for the history of the piece) Like I say I'm betting this is a good piece. Someone might offer the guy less at the show of shows, he doesn't have that much in it. He's just going by what Johnson offered him -- he might sell the knife for $3500.
