Unusual style of grip material.
Grip is not ivory as Tobau said. From what I see in the pic it's not a plaster filled type either.
The grip looks to be made of galath (sp?). It's a milk based resin that was used for a short time. Mostly during the transition from trolon grips to plaster filled or celluloid over wood by some companies.
The surface developes very fine cracks that fill up with grime and tend to look very dirty. This is one of the ways to spot this type of grip material as that the grip is dirty on the raised surfaces of the grip rather than having the grime in the grooves.
This grip was tested during the shortages of the war years so the dagger wouldn't be a prewar example.
Hope this helps.

Army
The grip is Tony describes, made of Galaith. Tony knows his business......
The dagger would have to be classified as a mid-period (and again as Tony says, after the start of the war) at best and Not early. Schuttelhofer is not a particularly hard Army Maker to find so not anything but possibly a tad scarce....
