I see we now have three threads on this one knife.
I can only say that I have seen them before and some years ago there was some discussion of them over at the German daggers forum. Some people seem to like them, while others don't. Sorry I don't know enought about them to form an opinion one way or another.

Some points to ponder........
The blade looks to have the surface textured to mimic damascus. The pattern is not one that is readily identifiable as period German damascus.
The spine runs continuously thru the blade and handle suggests that this piece was made from a sword blade.
This type of letter opener is not difficult to make for anyone remotely skilled in basic metal working.
