    Denazified SS Dagger

    Gentlemen,
A friend of mine just purchased a SS dagger with the tip cut off. He informed me that this was a way to denazify SS daggers. My 2 question are , is this true and how much does this depreciate the value of the dagger? Thanks.

I am a newbie, but "de-nazify" to me is to pry the eagle out of the grips and the SS button.

I have heard of tips being broken off by prying with the dagger, but nothing done on purpose to change the weapon tip.

I know retipping is fairly common and have seen them shortened and rehoned to mask the tip damage. Would love to see pics. Always great to see a new treasure!

There are a few stories floating out there to explain broken tips. To me, the simplest explanation with the least number of assumptions makes more sense. In all likelyhood somebody just dropped it or used it as a pry bar.

That would diminish the value greatly.
The first thing to look at is the blade.
That is what we collect "Edged Weapons".
If the blade is no good, the dagger will never amount to much.
Retipped blades are easy to spot, and serious collectors avoid them.

There is anecdotal evidence of sword blades being broken in half as a sign of surrender, but I'm with the others who believe that, in the case of a dagger, the broken blade is most likely the result of carelessness or abuse.

In any event, the value of the piece is greatly diminished.
