I am no expert, but he may be referring to the stripes on the bottom of the"acorn".
I have two and just picked one up at a gun show today new unissued and both mine have the same chain type thread's as the knot itself. on the bottom yours looks flat on the pic. Also the piece above the "acorn" look's very very strange. Just isn't right! Wish I could post pics, but could scan and E mail em to you. geopop

Always worth running a black light over these too. Sometimes some of the stitching will glow, as will the stuffing to the acorn if you slightly tease the bullion apart.
