New to the Forum, chained ss dagger

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum! My wife and I are stationed in germany, so I have the chance to buy some stuff for my collection. I picked this up from an army buddy of mine. He married a german girl, and her grandfather was in the SS. I bought this for 500 euros (about 700 USD). I had it checked out by a licensed militaria dealer, and he said it was a textbook 1936 chained dagger. Ho,pefully, I can also get the uniform off my friend, and maybe some pictures. He is going to give me all his info on his wife's grandfather.

Sorry if the pictures are bad! The pommel nut comes off with ease (its only on hand tight so I don't chip the wood grip), there are no marks on the top of the crossguard so it was never messed with, SS dot is all there with no chips, no chips or repairs in the wood, the scabbard has about 94% of the black paint (crazing in some areas), the ball at the end is dented a bit, chain has all the links (type 2 chain) but 2 of them aren't welded anymore (just starting to come apart) and 2 links are dented. The blade has some pitting from storage, but I lightly cleaned up the rust and put some oil on it,screws on scabbard are unturned, and the worst thing is that when my friend was showing it to me, he was messing around with it and broke the tiny metal spring in the clip

When I took the dagger apart, under the cross guards it had a P. A. on the undersides. SS stamp is on the back of the chain.

I just ran into this forum by accident, but I am glad I found it. You guys have LOTS of cool stuff! I ordered an orig rope for the dagger, but I am having a hard time trying to find a black spade shaped hanger. I guess the hanger I am looking for costs a lot of $$$ But I hope to hit the flea markets, and the tiny shops that sell nazi era stuff (they are hard to find, since it is illegal to have in germany). Check out the picts, and let me know what you guys think Again, sorry for the bad picts. I can try to take more if you guys want.

Hello & Welcome to the Forum!

Better photos would help, but from your description (i.e., the "P" & "A"-marked crossguards is a positive sign) and what I can see in the pix, it looks like you did good - especially for the price.

      sorry for the picts

my camera really really sucks. I had to scan the scabbard, but the blade is hard to take a realistic photo of. I have other picts but you can't see how the blade really looks.

Yeah I figured I did good on the price.. 700 bucks The fit in the wood gripe is GREAT. Blade is unmarked.

If you guys can give me some info on how to take a better pict let me know! I would be more than happy to take better photos.

For better photos close up, you need to use the "macro" setting on your camera. The icon for it usually looks like a flower of some description.

If your dagger ends up being all original, then it's worth "around" 10 times the amount you paid for it.

I will see if I can find a marco setting on my camera.. I will take picts outside tomorrow, since its already dark here.

I am 100% sure it is real. I think that militaria dealer said it was worth between 5k-6k. He offered to buy it from me, but I will never sell it. I have been looking for one of these since I was a kid. Hopefully I can find some good SA daggers out here. I do a lot of metal detecting and have found a few things.. it will all go into my collection
