Hi All,
The Brazil received in the beginning the century 20 some French and German equipment and to modernize its Army.
Between them, it was the Mause rifle (Gewehr 98 model 1908, 7X57mm) and the S98/08 (M1908) bayonet.
Images from Berzotti Collection:
This type of bayonet was supplied several other countries, with Belgium, Chile, Argentina, etc.
This is a typically German bayonet for exportation.
Notices that this long guard and curve, called 'quillon', were abandoned by the German Army some decades before...maybe the last used weapon age Mauser 71/84.
'Quillon' is one typically French influences, some French bayonets of this period still possessed 'quillon', as the used ones for the Lebel Metal ring.
Some marks found in Brazil are: "Alexander Coppel - Solingen" and "Weyersberg - Solingen".
