    Kriegsmarine dagger with hammered scabbard

Greetings all, I am not a dagger guru, so would very much appreciate some help with the following as to:

    a) $ Value
    b) Early or late period.
    c) Any other general information regarding K.M daggers.

Images are both inside and outside (i.e flash and no flash)

Aquired from a local merchant navy vets family, who unfortunately polished it, but still thats is part of its history!

    many thanks

    Mike

everything on this dagger is from Höller: The grip with springy-style wire, the crossguard with extended nippels, a good sign in a time that parts are mixed.

The hammered scabbard is a little bit rarer than the lightning bolt type.

            The portepee is just great

The polishing, of course is not so good

The price? No idea, I leave that to an american collector.

            Regard, Theo

                  Hello Mike,
Very nice example, with correct knot, early hammered, pebbled scabbard.
Amost desirable dagger, value? Depends on who is selling it, my opinion, anywhere from $900-$1200, ofcourse on condition.
                  Very nice
                  Regards,
                  Gary

Keep those comments coming guys, are we talking per war made?

                    Thanks

                      Nice find, knot looks great.

I am definately in the minority that likes only the maker marked ones as you have shown. Here is a thread you may find entertaining.

Every single Vet acquired Holler KM, Luft or Army I have been shown or bought always has the 17 ticks on the thermometer. Although almost no one agreed with me, I did not see anyone else produce a Vet acquired KM, Luft or Heer Holler with marks different than you now show and that I showed.

                      See below for link.

I would guess it's from the 38/39 era. Very nice looking piece. I agree with Gary that $1200 is probably the top end.

I would go a lot lower. You will have trouble getting decent money for it since the etch on the blade is dulled from poor storage and polishing. One can find many KM's with a very crisp etch and blade condition is critical unless it's rare. I would be surpised if it brought $700.

I missed the condition of the blade on the first pass so I'm going to have to lower the estimate somewhere in Jeff's range, maybe $800. Still, it's a nice piece.
