While I can't say that I've handled enough of these to give you any opinions on authenticity, full SS honor daggers sell anywhere from 75 to 90K. To the right person I'm certain this would be very valuable.

I think the price you've quoted may be a bit low, Mr. Lipps.

As for this scabbard, I have not seen a genuine one of this design. However, I will say that this leather is different from the ones on a regular honor dagger scabbard.

Wiz, while the asking prices are a lot higher, the only two I actually know that sold recently were in that price range.

Yes I brokered the trade of a SS honor dagger for cufftitles and I'm not sure what to make of your post, I guess its all in the eye of the beholder.
I didnt see anyone ponying up the very fair asking price of 65,000.00.

That's one of the problems with the ultra rare items is that the number of people in the collecting market that can actually afford these are is very narrow. I can certainly see a nice cufftitle collection being equal in value to an Honor Dagger and a lot more liquid.

I agree and would submit that the scabbard in question is such an item. For someone who has an honor dagger and is missing the scabbard, one could probably name his or her price. Otherwise, there is very limited demand.

Nothing sub-rosa in my post, Eddie. Just surprised that 1 of 13 known SS Honors in exsistance would trade for cufftitles, that's all. I'm sure one of the "Dagger Kings" would have traded a mountain full of Armies, Lufts, SA's, SS's, hangers and portapees for that dagger if properly approached. But none the less, it was turned into some items that were more marketable for the owner.

Honor Scabbard

I have seen over four of these loose SS Honor Scabbards over the last several years. All extras had the oakleaf design and were being offered forsale at the $5000 to $7000 price range.
I know for a fact that three of these came from veterans in the Solingen area at the end of the war and one had a regular RZM Sa Dagger in it when found.
This style scabbard appears to be more common as a left over part than the Honor Scabbard with lined fittings.
I currently know where two are at this moment and both can be purchased.

Mr. Weinand, could you please elaborate on the "more common as a left over part?" Are you also saying that the regular honor scabbards are much rarer?

I am actually surprised that a honor dagger went unsold for $65,000. Maybe I shouldn't be. My only explanation for this is that, if someone is going to shell out all that money for a honor dagger, might as well get one that has a flawless grip, real untouched leather, matching numbers, perfect gilding,... or essentially - a mint one. Perhaps it's just like the market for SS chained daggers. There are some to be found in mediocre condition for $4-$5K range. But the ones in mint going for $10K and higher are quickly snatched up. With 14-16 genuine SS honor daggers known, seldomly do we see a minty one up for sale. The last truly minty one, I believe, did fetch its asking price of over 6 digits.
