Army dagger - Eickhorn

Hi all,

im considering purchasing this dagger I’m just concerned that the scabbard isn’t a Eickhorn product? Rest of the dagger looks correct with a nice personalisation. Should it have the thicker throat with the reverse screw? Also are the fittings silver plated or nickel plated? Thanks everyone

Good one IMO, Eickhorn type 2 crossguard with their earlier type of scabbard with 2 flat head side screws. There's a type 2 pictured in Heeresdolche reference guide with the same scabbard but that one has an earlier double oval maker-mark, but there could easily be overlaps with fittings or maker-marks when switching from one to the next, and both marks are dated 36-37. Plating looks silver to me. Looks like a nice dagger.

Just had a little look around and these type 2s seem to come with a mixture of Eickhorn fittings, I remember reading somewhere that Eickhorn did often overlap one type with the next. The early style of pommel on the one you show indicates to me that it is an early production type 2, which IMO would be ok with the earlier type of scabbard with side screws.

This "overlap" works in favor of this dagger. An earlier double oval blade with the later scabbard would be far less desirable.

I see it’s spelt ‘Wrangle’ looking online there’s a few different ways of spelling it. I think the ‘FRHR’ essentially means ‘free lord’

without his first name I guess it’ll be impossible to trace
