German K98k bayonets

Hello,

I am branching out into uncharted territory. I don't know much about bayonets, I know a bit about firearms. I also haven't posted on this forum. I've been intimidated by German stuff because there is so much to learn ( also an appealing part too!)

Today at a LGS they had two bayonets in a random box for $75 each. They were mismatched K98k bayonets and not dress bayonets that I could tell. I should have written down all of the info. But, one bayonet I know was 42ddl and one of the scabbards was marked Rich A Herder.

I believe one bayonet had a wooden grip and the other may have been a bakelite material. Being mismatched, I assumed thats less desirable and probably more common. Are these probably decent deal since they still WW2 German or is that probably right where the market it. If that's market value I'll probably just hold off and pay more in the future for a matching bayonet.

Any advice appreciated. I have a lot of reading and research to do.

75$ each even mismatched is okey if the condition is nice ,a matched one may cost you a bit more as this two

Originally a German pistol collector myself, it was a good training ground in learning about period weapons finishing, matching parts and serial numbers. etc. etc. etc. In agreement, $75.00 each could be a good deal - or maybe not if the condition is poor or possibly a PW refinished parts piece that not might be all TR period German in origin. The forums being a good place to start, a visit or two to an online dealer could also help in the education process. With the very large caveat that some TR dealers know very little about the bayonets, and some have atrocious grading standards as compared to specialists in the area. That said, if you are not in a hurry, posting items that you are curious about will usually get a response that can be helpful in both the short and long term. FP

As mentioned by FP the condition is important. postwar missmatch and reworks are not high priced.
