Question regarding Deluxe Hunting Cutlass by Eickhorn

    Hello,

I would sure appreciate help to a question I have with this dagger. Let me start by saying I know the pictures are horrible. I think there is enough information in the photos to maybe get a gut feeling. I'm concerned about the Eickhorn trademark. Shouldn't the trademark be flipped with the squirrel's head pointing to the hilt and not toward the tip of the dagger as it is on this piece. Maybe this is no big deal but it does concern me. It does appear the etch of the blade is running in the correct direction as compared to the Eickhorn Catalog for this pattern. Maybe there are other tells from the limited photos. Anyway, any comments other than crappy photos would be greatly appreciated.????

    Regards,
    Tim

Period trademarks should be STAMPED, not etched

      Hi Ron,

The photo is so bad but I thought it looked etched too. Just so hard to tell. I'm going to confirm that. Any issue with direction placement if it would happen to be stamped. Should the squirrel's head always be pointing at the hilt?

      Thanks,
      Tim

Thank you very much for the picture Francisque! As Ron and Mat pointed out, we have a problem with what appears to be an etched trademark. Do you know if the trademark is always stamped in this direction on originals. Just want to learn.

            Regards,
            Tim

I think the positioning of the maker mark is secondary to whether it was stamped or etched. Typically though, a period logo that is stamped will face the way it does with head toward the crossguard.

Agree with others. Every post war hunting piece I have come across has the logo etched and facing the direction the dagger in question is.
