SA dagger. To scabbard or not to scabbard?

    Hello all,
I couldn't walk past this one at an antique store. I'm pretty sure it's good, may be parted together not sure. It was only 100 bucks so I grabbed it. Obviously in pretty rough shape, but for the price didnt care. Now I dont know what to do with it. If it is an original piece should I just keep as is, or find a scabbard to pair it with. If I should find a scabbard, what would be the match for it? Is there any way to tell if it is sa or nskk without the scabbard? Thanks for the help.

I don't think it's a part dagger, looks like an all original late war RZM, a bit salty but worth the 100 bucks, maker is Max Weyersburg. You would need a later scabbard type painted not anodized. As far as NSKK or SA there is no way to tell, they used the same dagger, so you can go with black or brown scabbard. The fit might be rough...maybe display the dagger and scabbard separate.

Welcome to the WAF. Your dagger was made by WMW- Waffenfabrik Max Weyersberg and is a later plated model SA. It would be tough to find a matching scabbard and it would probably cost you at least twice what you paid for the dagger. I would just enjoy and display it as is and start the hunt for a early one to go with it.

I don't think the lower crossguard is plated, looks like a nickle-silver one to me.

Thanks guys. I think you are right Kris. The top guard is definitely plated because its chipping while the bottom is perfect. I think it's been that way a long while though because the nut doesnt look like it has moved in many years. For the low price I couldn't pass it up. I already have a nice early ss dagger, so if I come across a salty black painted scabbard, I will put a check in the box for an nskk.
