    Klass Heer dagger

Local estate sale reached out to me after they found this item. Maker mark off center so I'm not sure what to think on it. Heer daggers not my speciality at all and time is of the essence with this. Thanks!

If reasonable, I would buy it just for the crossguard, but I'm not a Heer specialist.

Do the scabbard bands have an asterix (x) on the edges?

I am not sure. I can ask for additional photos as well as that of the blade. Would the mark be on the outer edge of the band or on the side with the ring? Someone on WR said "The crossguard is a quite rare alu Pack guard with typical Klaas hand enhancements.".

Yes Danny knows his stuff, it looks like an Aluminium Pack type 1, I'm not sure if the pommel should also be Aluminium though, Danny might know.

The maker mark being slightly off-center would not concern me. As Russ mentioned, the asterisks would be on the outer flank of the scabbard bands, assuming the scabbard is original to the dagger.

if reasonable, get it for the crossguard alone.

I can bring that up when I get the additional photos he requested.

My offer is $500-600 which includes a Wehrpass that I've posted in the appropriate section and several original AP 8x10 photos from the ETO and PTO. Seller seemed on board with that, pending verification. Also several Joe Foss items with signatures present - apparently the estate owner was an author who was good friends with him. Haven't made an offer on those though.

Looking at it again it might be a Pack type 2, see what others say.

                        Not a Klaas scabbard

Thanks Ron. That's what I kinda figured at this point. Danny over at WR said he was expecting an aluminum pommel to match the guard but it's starting to look more like a parts dagger.

So I passed on the findings to the estate seller and they said they will sell the dagger, Wehrpass and some original AP photos from the ETO and PTO for $250 pre-sale. For that price is it worth selling for parts?

I think its worth buying for that price as its a rare guard, there is also a possibility the pommel could be aluminium under the patina, the scabbard will always be questionable without the asterisks on the bands, but because of the rare guard a type collector might still be interested in buying it despite the scabbard. Wittmann has just posted a Klaas army dagger for sale and you might be interested in what he has to say about the asterisks on the bands, but remember he is a dealer. Please do not buy it to part it out, this just adds to the problem of parts daggers.

                              Russ.
