Hi - The parts all look period made. Although I am far from an expert on Luft daggers, the pommel is not typical Eickhorn and seems slightly smaller than the grip. The eagle looks like a generic one, rather than an Eickhorn. Eickhorn scabbards I believe from this period should have flush mounted screws.

I'll would like to see other comments.

While it appears that the individual components are original, I'd have to agree with Jeff and say it looks like most of the parts are not standard Eickhorn maunfacture. I'd guess that it may have been assembled from leftover stock.

Hard to tell from the photos, but the pommel looks "heavy". Try this simple test:

Put the dagger iin the scabbard and hold it by the upper scabbard ring. If it tips pommel-down, the pommel is too heavy - a sure sign of a postwar component.

In any event, it's certainly not a textbook Eickhorn...I'd put my money elsewhere.

                    Hi Joerg,

The pommel details are quite soft especially at the corners of the swastika. Same for the crossguard especially on the top flats. The oakleaves seem indistinct. The ring around the swastika on the pommel is dotted/dimpled in a similar fashion of an E. Pack and Son pommel. But Pack pommels are dimpled with round dots instead of raised lines.

The tang of the blade looks to have quite a bit of polishing or grinding far down from the ricasso shoulder. Something not right here.

The scabbard has the headed screws mentioned above and the screw is off center to one side.

IMO this is not an Eickhorn dagger and may only be a parts dagger at best.

You can do much better as nicer 2nd Model Luft daggers are not hard to find.

                    Good luck!

                    Tony

The pommel indeed has some "issues". IMHO the inside of these gilded pommels should be gold. This is wash residue from the gilding process. Eickhorn pommels are often seen to be the "heart" shaped variety. This pommel just is not right.
As a Post Script here, I recently purchased a gilded pommel 2nd luft from a dealer that was NOT gilded on the inside. I called him on this and he stated that there were some late in the period that painted the swas with a gold colored paint... Well, maybe so... but I have examined 20 or 30 of these over the past several years and invariably they are all the same. The piece in question I returned it. If you are buying one of these ensure the inside is gold and you will sleep well at night.

                        Hello my friends,

thank you all for your comments on this dagger.

Did I understand right, that it looks like the parts of the dagger are original, but assembled later, so we have a dagger made of original parts, but nor a Standard Eickhorn Dagger than of any other Maker?

                        Best wishes

                        Joerg

That is the best case...there may even postwar parts mixed in...hard to be 100% sure from the photos.
