    late war bayonette

I have just seen one in a new book i have got and have never seen one before so has any one got one that they can take photos of in detail and the markings
it looks smaller than the normal one and a thick bacerlite handle also how do you carry it? it looks as though it has no belt loop or pervisions for a frog???
has any one got one for sale or know of one for sale??? and what the price would be?
    Thanks Adam

      Adam,

I think you are asking about the SG42 tool bayonet. If so, the bayonet was made by Eickhorn (cof) and has an integral belt loop attached to the bakelite scabbard. They were also made after the war by Eickhorn for the Angolian military and they have been cleverly reproduced recently. So, be very careful with these. They sell for over $1000. (US). Good luck.

          Adam,

I don't know if you can buy a reproduction as a reproduction since Eickhorn says that they did not make the fakes (I don't believe that is a true statement by Eickhorn BTW) and the reproductions are fakes sold as originals at near market value. You can buy the postwar Angolian examples (slightly different) for around $400 when they are found. I know this is confusing but these SG42 are seldom seen in any configuration.

Make that WELL over ... The last 100% genuine (!) one I saw being sold went for almost 4,500 EURO Pitty I didn't have the money at that time The 4th Geb.Div. was one of the testing units, so it would have looked very nice on my M44 GJ ...

                SG42 Bayonet

This rare WWII Eickhorn prototype (issued and several hundred made for a trial) are very rare and come in three different models. The tools in the grip are often marked by Klaas and were assembled by them for Eickhorn.
The originals have a bright blade with a blued ricasso with the Eickhorn code cof and the waffenamt marking. The dark reddish bakelite grips are prone to breading at the crossguard on the lower section of the grip (many show this flaw) and the scabbard has an angled metal bar to attach to the belt. Fakes don't have this angled bar set up.
You really need to study pictures of originals before you try to buy one of these rare bayonets.

PS: I have found two of these directly from veterans, so I know they were issued to some extent in WWII for field trials.

Hi reidmuller, it's not broken off.
It's a clip like the trench knive.
Yes, it's very expensive but very rare bayo.

                      Regards

There’s a reason the bayonet shown above has been on that dealers site for years.

Consider yourself extremely lucky if you find an original(bayo, tool, scabbard) for under $4K.
