Hi Tony, the grip has several patches of restoration.

On the overall look of the dagger, personally I would pass on it due to condition issues of the blade, scabbard and the poor grip.

Tony, since you're looking at a Type I which is somewhat lesser seen, I'll post a few photos for you to compare to yours. The first question is whether or not you can see the DRGM on the back of the clip through the center of the top cloverleaf. If you can then your clip should look like mine. The DRGM is not always present, it's just a good place to start.

The Skulls on the Type I are very detailed. The teeth are very prominent, but the the detail to the crossbones is weak.

Looks like you're in a condition versus price situation. It's a question of the price outweighing the problems. Personally I don't see anything to make me question the authenticity, but you're the guy it's got to make happy.

To echo the sentiments of Ade and Larry, certainly going to be a case of whether you cen be happy settling for this dagger because of the price. A couple of thing to keep in mind when you're making a pruchase of this nature/magnitude:

• If you're not happy with a piece when you buy it, it's not likely you ever will be
• Just think about the pieces here on the Forum that get the "ooh's and aah's"...they always seem to be the items in really nice condition. As a follow-up, those are also the pieces that will always be in demand.
