    Help identifying (cavalry?) sword!?!

    I threw this one up in the commonwealth forum thinking it was brit but I'm being told it could be Japanese, can anyone help please..

    Hi bratwurstdimsum,

    Your sword appears to be one of the reproduction Model 1850 Foot Officer swords made for US Civil War re-enactors from the photo. It is not old as it has a modern nut on the pommel holding the tang of the blade. The casting is very poor and the blade appears to be plated. The grip leather is new and poorly formed. I would think this sword was made in India or thereabouts for the re-enactor market. You can buy these in the US from many dealers for around $50. I hope this helps.
