    Sword Knot Question

I was told this knot went on a Police sword. Can anyone out there in forum-land confirm or deny that? Is it WWII-era or post-war?

It's very well made and does not glow. The strap looks to be thin vinyl, but am not certain of it. The knot is beautifully woven and is oval in cross-section, not round like a dagger knot.

    Thanks for the help.

In my TR edged weapon accouterments book by Johnson andBradach, there's a pic of a police officers bayoney and it appears that this knot is mounted on the hanger. I think the straap should be a thin leather.

            Scott,

Your knot is the large Portepee for Polizei Offiziere that was worn on the police sword by officers and senior NCOs (Unteroffiziere mit Portepee) after 1936. The strap could be encountered made from black leather, Ersatz pressed paper, cloth, or even plastic and still be original. It looks OK to me from the photo.
