    SS folding knife. . .

    Hello!
A friend of mine has come across an "SS knife" that folds by two brass handles sliding forward and covering the blade. The way he described it to me, it looks like this (this is NOT the knife that he has, this is just an example of what he described to me).

My question is are there any original knives of this sort? This man seems pretty sure that it is real because he got it from a Museum.

Thanks a lot for your help!

This is a well-known, total fantasy piece from the late 60's/early 70's.

Examples of pantograph knives used during the period exist, but they don't even remotely resemble this piece of crap.

Did any of these have SS markings on them? And what should I look for if it is an original pantograph knife?
      Thanks again!

I have never seen a real one, but here is a thread about the fake ones.

I have only seen photos of the period pantograph knives as they are quite rare. A really simple affair with no SS markings and not nearly as elaborate/ornate.

As Skip said, these showed up in the 60's. To the best of my recollection around 1966. It is amazing how these still show up on the Forums fairly regularly, just like the fake Delta SS unit pennants from the same era. When they first came out, they did not fool many people. However, add 35 years of age and a huge influx of new collectors due to the internet and-----------!

All too true I’m afraid. I don’t think that what is happening is going to slow but accelerate as time goes on and some of the knowledge regarding the fakes is lost. What continues to amaze me is the fact that in some categories ‘fantasy’ pieces now sell for more money than unaltered genuine items. FP

Frogprince is right, truth is stranger than fiction. These pieces seem to have taken on a life of their own, similar to the etched SS combat bayonets that surfaced in England in the 1960s. While most folks know they're not period, their prices have risen dramatically nonetheless. I guess we can never rule out the oddity factor even with post 1945 pieces.
