Just got this dagger, NSKK with black handle , possibly marine issue? All fittings are nice and tight and seem correct. I’m not very knowledgeable on daggers , but to me this one appears to be genuine and as described. Opinions please , any info’ would be gratefully appreciated, thanks Jimmy.

Hi Streetbob.
This NSKK dagger sure look good and it is for sure genuine About that black grip, I belive SA man who own this dagger paint that grip to black when he joined to NSKK. When SA man join to NSKK they needed to paint scappart to black and sometimes there was misunderstanding so some mans did paint the grip too to the black.
Here is good thread about SA marine daggers

There’s a controversy about these SA daggers with black scabbard and black handle. Some collectors believe it’s SA Marine, others NSKK.
Until today no period evidence has been found proving either opinion.
Here’s another thread about SA Marine daggers

Anyhow, your daggers looks original and has been manufactured by a rare maker, which is always desirable. Blade looks very nice with lots of crossgrain. Another important characteristics.
Only 2 „issues“: the tang nut seems to have quite some scratches, which is usually a sign of one or more attempts to open the dagger with wrong tooling. And the screws of the upper scabbard fitting are protruding more than usual. Another possible sign that the scabbard has been disassembled.
Collectors don’t like both „issues“, as it destroys the „virginity“ of the dagger. Worst case it has been assembled from different parts. But I don’t see this in your case.
Nevertheless, it’s a real nice dagger and I would add this one to my collection

See Ralf Siegert http://www.dienstdolch.de/index.php/marine-sa regarding early Marine SA daggers. The NSKK Kraftbootstandarten carried gilt-finished M-36 chained daggers. There was no Marine NSKK dagger. Marine SA later carried standard SA daggers. Reference Organisationsbuch der NSDAP 1936 and 1937 Auflage 2.
