Hunting cutlass for reviews

Hi guys!

Saw this thing floating around and seems like the one I've been dreaming of. Anything wrong with it? Any idea of the maker?

This is a short deluxe Hunting hirschfänger by Eickhorn, #1711 in their catalogue. You need to see if the maker mark is stamped or etched. If stamped, should be OK. If etched, it may have still been made by Eickhorn albeit post-1945. Eickhorn was in business up until the early 1970's I believe.

FYI, most auction houses either don't know or don't want to know the foregoing so do your own homework and if it's etched, avoid it.

+1 w/ Ron. Also the frog looks made yesterday and the grip emblem is way off center to the viewers right. Not a fan of this example. I would also as a collector (Just My Opinion) try to stay away from unmarked examples.

I figured out shortly after making this thread that the dagger is most likely Eickhorn, but just wondered why its not marked (Like Mat stated). However, I think I'll keep looking for a nicer and less dodgy example.

This one is on Hermanns new auction, it looks to be an unmarked example which is the first I have ever seen, the grip emblem has been replaced in my opinion as it is not the Eickhorn type from this period, the frog seems OK to me and the knot is a known variation of the hunting (DJ) types.I was looking at this but will not bid as it has been messed with.

Yep. I had to check that auction as well just to see how much someone paid for it.
