I nice and not so easy to find knife. I can not fully read the inscription but it appears to be electro pencil engraved probably 1970s-very recent to document association to the vet how carried it. I guess that is both good and bad news. I shoe tag would be less intrusive but it is what it is and I have seen similar done on hundreds of The years.

It has 2 Russian plases engraved and 1941/44, and i found a solidier with that name who died in the batle of Normandy. Is all this a fake engravings or can it be done periodly, and can that be said for shure? Not claiming anything, youst curious
The man selling this said he got it from his grandfather and so on, but you will never knowe for shure
            Thanks anyway for answering

Electro pencils existed in WWII but I dont see soldier accessing one or doing this in the period, which is implied if the name on the Knife was KIA in 1944. I could possibly see the engraving being done well after the war to a knife left at home to remember this family member who was KIA. It is very possible these knives were private purchase they certainly are not marked to Heer conventions so maybe was not in his kit when killed it is all impossible to be sure

For some the engraving will hurt value and for some not. Good skilled smiths could remove this very shallow etching with no sign it was there and pretty good cross grain put back as well

Thank you again gentlemen for the answer and good info
I have seen this kind of shallow markings on mp40 magazines and so on, done most sertain of a waffenmeister or others reworking or fixing veponary in field or at the base. Not names, but numbers and letters and so on. I will have it «as is», as long it not can be stated for shure, as for the most things like this, that it is done periodly or not.
                  Thank you again

Kiestinki is more likely a finnish name of the location.

The other place is Uhtua, location of east Karelia.

Question is that it was added by electropencil and on untouched piece, that was never used.
